One of the drawbacks (and advantages) of performing residential appraisal assignments in an urban area is the dependency on public transportation. In Manhattan, our appraisers take buses and subways to our inspections and occasionally a cab. Well today, the [NYC Transit Union went on strike [NYT]](http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/20/nyregion/nyregionspecial3/20cnd-strike.html?ei=5094&en=76117d48a59c9e0c&hp=&ex=1135141200&partner=homepage&pagewanted=print) for the first time in 25 years. With 33,700 subway and bus workers staying home today, its tough for us to get around the city. Cabs will be nearly impossible to find since they will be in very high demand.
Looks like our appraisers will be canceling our appointments today since we can’t get to our inspections. I sure hope our clients in other markets understand.
